Esholt Sprint

Another motor cycle sport that Bradford & District Motor Club was involved in.
The Esholt Sprint was a motorcycle speed event that took place on a half mile stretch of road in Esholt Park near Bradford Yorkshire. It ran from the 1950s to early 1990. It was a popular event that attracted many competitors and large crowds, attracting around 3,000 competitors from all over the country travelling at speeds of more than 160mph to watch the races. The course was a standing start quarter mile sprint. The event was organised in conjunction with the Esholt War Memorial Institute. sometimes included special features such as the George Brown Memorial Sprint, held in memory of local servicemen.
Esholt was the local sewage works so there was a real mixture of smells. Hot fuels, Castrol R and the waft from the sewage work
